At five weeks of laws in Britain, leaders of the main political parties gathered last night for a big televised debate. There was talk including taxation and public spending. A subject that has led to a heated exchange between David Cameron and Ed Miliband:
"If we return to tax increases, to waste, spending, debt, that is to say, all that has created the mess, we will not make service to workers, we will put a spoke in their the wheels', launched the Conservative Prime Minister. ''
"You're not intervened on tax havens or on hedge funds. Ask yourself the question, you: why David Cameron will not do anything? Because these funds support his party, '' retorted the leader of the Labour opposition Ed Miliband.
Not surprisingly, the issue of immigration was also at the heart of this debate. Nigel Farage, party leader eurosceptic Ukip, denounced the policies of successive British governments in this field:
"After World War II, we had a net migration of about 30,000 per year. Today is 300,000 per year. This is ten times more than in 1945, '' said Nigel Farage.
"The problem Nigel is that you are the back door of a Labour government that would leave wide open immigration valves, which is not what this country wants, '' responded David Cameron .
"David, I wonder what world you live, '' said Ed Miliband.
None of the seven debaters did not seem to come out the winner of this debate. Three polls conducted after the broadcast, gave different winners. Sign of the uncertainty in Britain with the approach of the legislative elections.
