Ukraine: walking ultranationalists in Kyiv


A torchlight procession through the streets of Kiev. Thursday evening, thousands of supporters of the far-right formations Svoboda and Pravy Sektor, marched in the Ukrainian capital. They commemorate the birth of Stepan Bandera, there is 106 years old. The man is a controversial figure in the struggle for independence. Hated in Russia where it is presented as an accomplice of the Nazis, the Ukrainian nationalists consider them as a hero.


"At the time Stepan Bandera already saying that Moscow was our enemy. And now it turns out that it is exactly that. Today Russia has attacked the independent Ukraine and this proved that Stepan Bandera was right, "said Valentina Barchiuk, member of the Svoboda party.


Stepan Bandera was the ideological leader of the anti-Soviet fighters. Part of the Ukrainian nationalist movement work with the Nazis before fighting them. Bandera will himself be imprisoned for three years in a Nazi concentration camp. He was poisoned by KGB in 1959 in Munich.
