Europe steps up its fight against the terrorist threat

Further searches were carried out early Tuesday morning in Germany within the jihadist movement, following those already carried out in Berlin on Friday according to police across the Rhine.

200 police officers were mobilized in thirteen apartments in the German capital and Brandenburg and Thuringia.

"The operation was to search for items relating to financing and sending materials for terrorist activities in Syria in connection with the two people arrested last week," said the spokesman of the Berlin police.

"This is by no means a planned attack in Germany," the spokesman of the German justice. "The investigation and charges fall under serious acts in preparation in Syria."

In another case that has no connection with the above, an Algerian of 33 years in Athens and arrested Saturday on suspicion of having links with jihadist cell dismantled last week in Belgium said he was "okay "to be extradited to this country. The suspect admitted that he called "three or four times" from Greece a suspected jihadist imprisoned. He claimed before the prosecutor of Athens appeal court will "prove his innocence." The final decision will be made on Wednesday.
