Fewer journalists killed in 2014, but kidnappings are increasing, according to RSF

"Rarely death reporters have been perpetrated with a barbaric science of propaganda"

If the number of journalists killed worldwide is down compared to last year, violence against them are increasingly cruel and kidnappings have multiplied.

"Rarely death reporters have been perpetrated with a barbaric science propaganda," said Reporters Without Borders (RSF) in its annual report.

A particular reference to the beheading videos American journalists James Foley, and Steven Sotloff the Islamic State group. A total of 66 journalists were killed this year.

Two thirds of the killings occurred in areas of conflict. Country most dangerous for journalists, Syria, followed by the Palestinian territories, including the Gaza Strip, Ukraine, Iraq and Libya.

Both countries are at the top of the rankings for the arrests, Ukraine and Egypt, where nearly fifty journalists were arrested on grounds including proximity to the Muslim Brotherhood or "undermining national unity".

China also tops the list of countries that imprison journalists with Iran, Syria and Eritrea. A situation denounced by Reporters Without Borders (RSF) via a symbolic action organized in Paris.

"This container generally illustrates the situation of journalists in detention, 178 in the world, it refers to real events. Eritrea - the last country in the world ranking of freedom of the press, a small country in the Horn of Africa - there are 30 journalists in prison in camps with containers, where sometimes they are torture. This is a country where, moreover, there is 10,000 political prisoners, "said Christophe Deloire, secretary general of Reporters Without Borders (RSF).

In his gloomy report, the organization notes, however, a positive point, the fall in murders of journalists in countries considered "at peace" such as Mexico, India or the Philippines.
