The jihadists have multiplied the massacres against members of this religious minority, centered in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, around their stronghold of Mount Sinjar. Many women were abducted to be forcibly married or reduced to slavery.
Faced with these persecutions, thousands of Yazidis took up arms. But their commander in chief, Haydar Shesho, was recently arrested by Kurdish forces. Massoud Barzani, the president of the Kurdistan Regional Government, opposes indeed a Yazidi military unit. He asked resistant to join the Peshmerga.
