Kenya has asked the United Nations to move the largest refugee camp in the world, which is on its territory. Authorities suspect indeed Shebab Islamists hiding in the huge Dadaab complex inhabited by half a million Somali refugees.
Set in the early 1990s, Nairobi now wants the camp to be moved to the other side of the border in Somalia. The authorities have set a deadline of three months, or they promise to move themselves refugees.
A long wall of 700 km is under construction on the border between the two countries to prevent incursions by al-Shabaab. This is a security measure in response to the massacre of the University of Garissa that killed more than 140 dead.
In its application to the High Commissioner for Refugees, the Kenyan vice-president added that his country would change after the attack, as the United States after the September 11 attacks.
Last year, Kenya had deported dozens of Somalis after the attacks on its soil.
