Iran nuclear confidence, how far?

For nearly 12 years, the Iranian nuclear issue is poisoning international relations. Tehran is developing a nuclear program, ensuring that it is only for civilian purposes. But Westerners, particularly Americans and Israelis doubt it, suspecting the Iranian regime of trying to develop nuclear weapons.

So who to believe? It's all about trust, and that's what the different negotiators seek to establish for months, and particularly since the past few days on the banks of Lake Geneva.

To talk, Nima Ghadakpour interviewed Thursday duplex from Tehran, Sadegh Zibakalam, professor at the Faculty of Law and Political Science of Tehran.

Nima Ghadakpour euronews:

Mr. Zibakalam, significant progress is observed in the negotiations, but there are always problems. In your opinion, what prevents Iran and Group 5 + 1 to agree?

Sadegh Zibakalam:

The first obstacle is that for 36 years, there is only mutual distrust between Iran and the United States. But since the last 19 months, Americans are faced with a government they can trust. And if there is an agreement on nuclear power, they can count on this government. But diplomats negotiating are under pressure from ultra-conservative of the two countries. The Obama administration is under pressure from the neocons and Israel. And Americans want this agreement to be reassuring for all political parties in the US, so that if Iran wanted to go back one day manufacture nuclear weapons, it would take him a long time. And Iranian side, the regime wants the sanctions cease as soon as possible.

euronews:

Israeli Information Minister said today (Thursday) that if there is an agreement in Lausanne, the option of a military strike remains on the table. In your opinion, what is the message that Minister he addressed to Swiss negotiators?

Sadegh Zibakalam:

On both sides, the extremists are doing the same thing in Iran yesterday, General Naghdi, the commander of Bassiji has again spoken of wiping Israel off the map, and these remarks, at a time when the Iran is negotiating, this is exactly the equivalent of what the minister said Israeli Intelligence. This is a delicate point: anyone wishing the end of the Islamic Republic of Iran does not approve an agreement on nuclear power, and the Israeli government is an example. For those who want the end of the regime in Iran, an agreement is put face this reality that the Islamic Republic is being strengthened.

euronews:

What is expected by the Iranian people these negotiations?

Sadegh Zibakalam:

This week, the Iranians celebrate their new year, they are on vacation, but even so, many of them are attentive. During the festivities, they also listen to the radio, they watch TV for the results of this marathon in Lausanne. Except when the war against Iraq, never in my there has been such empathy between the people and the Iranian state on such a sensitive subject.
