Easter in Ukraine: "God will give the victory against the aggressor"

The conflict in eastern Ukraine was in the minds and prayers in Kiev and Moscow, where Ukrainian and Russian leaders attended last night at Easter church service. Russian President Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and his wife were in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow. While the head of the Ukrainian state Petro Poroshenko and his wife visited the St. Volodymyr Cathedral in Kyiv.

The Orthodox celebrate Easter a week after the other Christians.

In Kiev, Patriarch Filaret, Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, said he firmly believed that "God would soon win (Ukrainians) against the aggressor. Because the truth is on our side, "said Filaret.

More than 6,000 people were killed in eastern Ukraine since the pro-Russian separatists took up arms last year against the pro-Western government in Kiev.
