Dutch hostage was released this morning in Mali by the French army. Sjaak Rijke was captured Timbuktu in November 2011 by members of Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM). It appeared there about five months in a video broadcast on the occasion of his 1000th day of detention. The operation of the French special forces also helped capture several individuals. However, two hostages, a South African and a Swede, who had been kidnapped along Sjaak Rijke are still in the hands of their captors.
