Discovering the Musashi, the most powerful battleship in history


This is the most powerful battleship in history. Or rather, it was because this is what is left of Musashi, the pride of the Imperial Japanese fleet sank in 44 in the Philippine archipelago. Its wreckage was located there is a week by the yacht of Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft, and now focuses among other maritime exploration.


Shigeru Nakajima, 94, is one of the last survivors of the crew of Musashi:

"Looks like it's the stern. When I see these images, I'm sure this is the Musashi with the anchor, the imperial seal of the chrysanthemum and the catapult which sent the planes. "


More than 1,000 crew members had sunk their ship, attacked in the same day by US dozens of aircraft and 19 hit by torpedoes.


"The captain and those who have fallen must be thrilled to hear the news of the discovery of the boat in paradise, and I speak for the rest of the survivors."


Entered service in 42, the Musashi was the flagship of the Japanese fleet and the main weapon to take over the Pacific to the Americans at the Battle of Leyte Gulf.


Find his wreck, which lies a thousand meters deep, took eight years to the team of Paul Allen.
