The French authorities on Monday unanimously condemn the desecration of graves in a Jewish cemetery in Sarre-Union in Lower Rhine.
Several hundred of these graves have been degraded: the overturned headstones, some displaced slabs. According to investigators, there was no specific entry.
The police was notified late Sunday afternoon.
Scientific experts came immediately on the premises of Strasbourg.
The cemetery is located in a small rural town of 3000 inhabitants. Twice, in 1988 and 2001, this site was the subject of profanation.
The President of the Representative Council of Jewish Institutions in France (CRIF) Roger Cukierman said "in (to have) enough of all these anti-Semitic acts."
The Prime Minister promised to do everything to find and punish the perpetrators of the desecration. "There is no track at this stage," said Manuel Valls Monday morning on RTL. "The Republic again be ruthless," he added.
This desecration comes a little over a month after the attacks in Paris, which had targeted including a kosher supermarket. 4 Jews had been killed.
