Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch released satellite photos showing destruction caused by an attack by the armed group Boko Haram launched January 3 in Baga and Doron Baga, on the shores of Lake Chad in the north-east of Nigeria.
One of the cities "was almost wiped out in the space of four days," says Amnesty. Hundreds of people, or more, may have been killed, according to the NGO. The organization of Human Rights also tells the story of a witness that a pregnant woman was shot as she was giving birth.
According to HRW, the city of Doron Baga, which is 2.5 km outside of Baga and houses the basis of a regional military force, the Multinational Joint Task Force (MJTF) was the hardest hit .
"This massacre is a crime against humanity," responded the chief US diplomat John Kerry.
