New deadly landslide in Indonesia

An entire village was destroyed yesterday on the island of Java killing at least 12 people dead and 108 missing according to the agency responsible for the management of natural disasters.

Hundreds of people were evacuated from the scene of the incident, around the village of Jemblung in the province of Central Java, about 450 km from the capital, Jakarta.

Major emergency resources were in place to evacuate casualties to hospitals in the area, but bad weather complicates the task.

Landslides are unfortunately common in Indonesia, more than half of the 250 million Indonesians live under this threat during the monsoon season, which is generally from October through April.
