Greece: a new president for Christmas

It is the coalition's bet in power in Greece who decided to advance two months the presidential election. Scheduled for 15 February, it will take place from the 17th of December. It is the Parliament that elects the head of state in Greece and up to three rounds of voting can take place.

Stavros Dimas, a former European and major figure of the Greek political commissar, is the candidate of the government coalition.

If no majority is found at the end of three rounds, early parliamentary shall be convened. It is the wish of many Greeks who say they are asphyxiated by the economic crisis.

Reactions this morning before parliament in Athens:

"It is clear that it will lead us to national elections, and this government has to go because you can not stand it. It only makes muddles. "

"It is unacceptable for a government to govern well and to pass laws which make us suffer the consequences. I want elections, elections tomorrow. "

According to the Left opposition party SYRIZA, the decision to bring forward the presidential was taken in agreement with the European Union and is a desperate attempt to hide new austerity measures.

The European aid plan of 240 billion euros, in force since 2010, was extended by two months Monday night.
