5 Things You May Have Missed This Weekend

The ongoing Ebola situation and the discovery of human remains in the search for missing University of Virginia student Hannah Graham made headlines this weekend. Here are five more things that made the news.

1. New Cop Killing Suspect Sighting Has 'High Credibility'

A new possible sighting of suspected cop-killer Eric Frein had Pennsylvania police re-focusing their search, more than a month after the manhunt began.

Frein, 31, is accused of ambushing state police in early September, killing one and wounding another. Since then, police say he has been hiding in the woods of the Pocono Mountains.

"Overnight we had a sighting for which we are assigning a high level of credibility," Lt. Col. George Bivens of the Pennsylvania State Police said Saturday. "It was reported in the area of the Pocono Mountain East High School. The individual's description was consistent with Frein and he was observed carrying a rifle."

The woman who saw the man said that his face was "covered with mud," so a positive identification could not be made, but she was about 15 to 20 feet from him.

After learning of the new possible sighting, police shifted the search area, he said.

Pumpkin Fest Crowds

Keene State College students quickly cleaned up from a chaotic weekend Sunday after violent parties near the city's annual pumpkin festival led to destruction, dozens of arrests and multiple injuries.

The parties around the school coincided with the annual Keene Pumpkin Festival, where the community tries to set a world record of the largest number of carved and lighted jack-o-lanterns in one place. The violence prompted police in riot gear to use tear gas as they tried to control crowds.

Mallory Pearce, a sophomore and vice president of the student body, said she saw a car flipped over in a parking lot, another car being destroyed and people being pepper-sprayed.

"It got way out of hand. Everyone I talked to said, 'I feel unsafe, I'm going home.' They didn't want to be part of the riot, and they couldn't do anything to solve it," she said. "I honestly did not feel safe."

Hawaii residents watched, waited and hoped for the best as a hurricane lost force but churned dangerously close early Sunday, threatening to batter several islands with wind and rain.

Hurricane Ana has been spinning on a parallel path southwest of the island chain for several days, and officials have opened emergency shelters and cancelled flights in precautions that come against the backdrop of a threat that hasn't materialized.

As Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell warned those on Oahu not to let their guard down, people at Waikiki Beach jumped into the ocean to surf big waves generated as Ana passed.

"Every time we have a hurricane," said 23-year-old, island resident Emile Meder, "we know it's going to be good."
