Ukraine: EU expands sanctions, new talks in Minsk


The foreign ministers of the European Union in Brussels yesterday decided to extend by six months the sanctions against Russian and pro-Russian separatists personalities. Decision following the deadly bombing of Mariupol and, more generally, to the reversal of the rebel offensive in eastern Ukraine.


Ministers had to show a united front on this issue, including the new head of the Greek diplomacy. "We took a unanimous decision today vis-vis Russia. We follow the mainstream. We are not the bad guy as you claim, '' said Nikos Kotzias press conference.


Moreover, new peace talks should open this Friday in Minsk in Belarus. The representatives of Ukraine, Russia and the OSCE will try to find a new cease-fire, after that last September that never really respected.
