The South Stream consortium passes completely under the control of Gazprom, the Russian gas giant. It announced the acquisition of the French EDF shares, Italy's ENI and the German Wintershall. The South Stream project that would supply Europe with Russian gas through Bulgaria and Serbia was abandoned early December decision of Vladimir Putin.
