Greece: rescue operation after a fire on board an Italian ferry


A fire broke out this morning on an Italian ferry off the coast of Greece. A rescue operation was underway around 8am in difficult weather conditions. Norman Atlantic had left a few hours before the port of Patras, was passed by the Igoumenitsa before taking the direction of the Italian port of Ancona with 466 people on board. A distress signal was sent as the ship was about 50 kilometers from the island Othoni, near Corfu.


The fire broke out on the deck where vehicles are.
