Sölden, like most Austrian winter sports resorts and Swiss, suffered the brunt of the crisis currently driven by Russia. The ruble continues to depreciate against the euro and the CHF, the crisis with Ukraine, factors that explain the sharp drop in bookings of Russia came in recent weeks.
"This winter, we expect a drop of nearly 20% in the number of Russian tourists. Tour operators with whom we worked for years disappeared from the market. We are already seeing a sharp decline in requests and reservations from Russia or Ukraine. "
A bad news for a regular sector for several years to host nearly half a million Russian tourists in the winter. A major source of income especially during the peak period of January corresponds however to the Orthodox Christmas holiday for the Russians.
