The US ambassador to South Korea attacked with knives by a militant nationalist


This is a stab in the military alliance between South Korea and the United States, and it is the US ambassador in Seoul who has paid the price. Mark Lippert was injured by a knife by a nationalist militant. Armed with a kitchen knife, the assailant attacked the diplomat at a meeting held at the Sejong Cultural Institute in the center of the South Korean capital. "As already stated our spokesperson in Washington, the US government strongly condemns this senseless act of violence," insisted the US adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs at the Embassy in Seoul.


The suspect was identified by police as Kim Ki-Jong, a 55 year old man already convicted for throwing a stone at the Japanese ambassador in Seoul in 2010. Kim Ki-Jong was taken into custody and Korean authorities do not intend to minimize the incident.


"We deeply regret what happened. Such acts against diplomatic delegation will be allowed under any circumstances. We take this incident very seriously, especially since it was perpetrated against the American ambassador who is our most important ally ", supported the spokesman of the Foreign Ministry Noh Kwang-il.


Rest police define the mobile Kim Ki-Jong. This mobile could be related to military exercises between South Korea and the United States. These maneuvers which have just begun, the suspect denounced this week on his blog, saying they make impossible the resumption of inter-Korean dialogue.
