Egypt frees Australian journalist Al Jazeera Peter Greste


He left his Egyptian jail Sunday.

The Australian journalist Al Jazeera Peter Greste was released and deported from Egypt to Cyprus, where he will return to Australia.


Imprisoned for a year for "support" to the Muslim Brotherhood, the Al-Jazeera journalist was arrested with two other of his fellow employees of the Qatari channel, the Egyptian-Canadian Mohamed Fahmy and Egypt's Mohamed Baher.

The three journalists were sentenced in June to prison terms ranging from 7 to 10 years.


"It's not going to forget his two other colleagues reacted brother Peter Greste, Andrew Greste. He will moderate his enthusiasm until these guys are released, there's no doubt. He will not leave until Baher Mohamed Fahmy and be out of there. "


The arrests took place in July 2013, during the impeachment of President Mohamed Morsi Islamist.


According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, Egypt is the sixth country in the world in number of journalists detained.
