Clean as a whistle, the new € 20 note is intended almost unfalsifiable

His latest analysis showed that in 2014, the number of seized counterfeit euro banknotes had increased by 25% compared to 2013. The € 20 banknote is also the most counterfeited. It represents 60% of seized counterfeits, followed by the 50 euro note, 26% of counterfeit notes.

All banknotes are legal tender throughout the euro area.

The production of euro banknotes combines the efforts of the national central banks (NCBs) and the European Central Bank (ECB), but each country in the euro zone is a producer of some of the notes and coins. In total, more than fifteen "high security" printing in Europe produce banknotes. Some are private printing. In France, the ticket printing is carried out mainly in Auvergne in the Puy-de-Dôme (Auvergne region), near Clermont-Ferrand.


Throughout the manufacturing process, a common management system ensures uniform quality of euro banknotes. Hundreds of manual and automated tests are performed to ensure that the printing of these tickets is the same in all countries.

In 2015, more than one and a half billion € 20 bills must be edited just by German domestic banks, French and Italian.


Like the first series of euro banknotes, tickets € 20 will be printed on 100% cotton paper. Cotton fiber is, indeed, much stronger than plain paper. Some security-related features such as the watermark, the security thread or foil (metallic strip) is literally embedded in the ticket.
