Farewell to Demis Roussos

Demis Roussos was buried in one of the main cemetery of Athens, attended by several hundred people. The singer died Sunday morning at the age of 68 in a private hospital in the city where he was treated for some time. He was diagnosed with stomach cancer at an advanced stage in April 2014.


Mariza Koch Greek singer, who began his career in the 70s, paid tribute to him: "This is a voice that awakened the noblest emotions in people, it was a credit to Greece, we are here to say Demis farewell. "

Also present at the ceremony, the French TV host Nikos Aliagas of Greek origin, who told the press that he was for it "important" to take part in this ceremony, "first because it was a friend, but also because it's a Greek from abroad, in the diaspora, who returns to the land of his ancestors. "


Mass in the chapel of the cemetery, and burial lasted at least less than an hour and a half. The ceremony was accompanied by religious songs, but no song Demis Roussos was played.


World famous


Demis Roussos became a worldwide star in the 60s, particularly in the Aphrodite's Child group and the success of "Rain and Tears." He then embarked on a solo career and had multiplied success with his unique voice timbre.
