It is a crowd of protesters who rallied Wednesday in Istanbul to pay tribute to the teenager Berkin Elvan and denounce the police violence. The security forces intervened to disperse them with their water cannons. Wounded by the security forces during anti-government revolt in 2013, Berkin Elvan died March 11, 2014 after 269 days in a coma. His death sent down hundreds of thousands of people in the streets of major Turkish cities. The teenager had been severely wounded in the head by a tear gas canister shot as he left for bread.
Wednesday, residents of Istanbul were not the only ones to mobilize. Demonstrations were held in the capital Ankara and Izmir particular.
For several weeks, the Turkish Parliament discusses a controversial bill that strengthens police powers, especially during events.
