Russian court refuses to release the Ukrainian ex-pilot Savchenko


While it is more than 80 days of hunger strike, Nadia Savchenko will stay in prison. The old pilot was elected symbolically Ukrainian MP in October.


A Moscow court rejected his appeal so that she could attend the current session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. The European court had again demanded his release yesterday.


Ukrainian President Poroshenko also "wrote a letter to this effect to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin for immediate release especially for medical reasons." Nadia Savchenko has already lost about twenty pounds.


On Monday, the head of the Ukrainian state awarded him the title of "national heroes."


Nadia Savchenko, was arrested last July when she was involved in a pro-government battalion in the east. The Russian authorities accuse him of "premeditated murder" of two Russian journalists in mid-June. She has always maintained his innocence and denied.


His arrest earned him a strong following and a strong mobilization in Ukraine with many demonstrations to demand his release.
