"We need representatives in Europe who have the will to fight terrorism."
Nearly four years after the outbreak of the conflict in Syria, Bashar al-Assad is expressed in a new interview with Portuguese television RTP. The Syrian president says that the country's institutions still work, despite the war, and that the population supports him in his fight against the jihadists, who he says are supported by Qatar, Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
Assad also criticizes the attitude of the West: "First, we need representatives in Europe who have the will to fight terrorism. However, we have not found them yet. We also need prudent policies. We can not be arrogant leaders who have adopted only selfish policies. Finally the third point, and it is very important the fight against terrorism should become a value. It should not give rise to opportunistic attitudes. ''
The fierce fighting of land continued Thursday in Aleppo, the day after the spectacular attack against a military headquarters. The building was almost completely destroyed by an underground explosive charge, filed by the rebels. A report provided by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, reported twenty deaths in the ranks of government forces.
Aleppo, northern Syria, is the former country's economic powerhouse. The insurgents and the army now share control of the city.
