The first visit to the United States of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, six months after his inauguration, is the opportunity to build a new relationship between the two countries.
At Camp David, along with the Secretary of State John Kerry, he discussed security issues, before discussing the withdrawal of US troops by 2016.
There are about 10,000 US troops in Afghanistan.
"I am pleased to announce today a new major initiative to create a new development partnership, according to the union government's reform program. The partnership will promote Afghan self using up to 800 million dollars in aid from the United States for the reforms carried out by the Afghans, "said John Kerry.
"It is a fundamental relationship. And we are very proud that this relationship is transformed into a lasting relationship in the future, "said Ashraf Ghani.
Afghan President also thanked the United States for the sacrifices of hundreds of thousands of US troops in Aghanistan since 2001.
"The page of relations with former President Karzai, who could infuriate Washington, is rotated. More than once, Hamid Karzai publicly criticized the United States and challenged the goodwill of the Obama administration. The government union Ashraf Ghani appears to offer new promise today for a more effective partnership with America, "analyzes our Washington correspondent Stefan Grobe.
