The Turkish authorities have paid tribute Wednesday to the prosecutor of Istanbul, died yesterday at the end of a hostage. His funeral was held in mid-day.
The magistrate had been detained for several hours in his office by two far left activists. They threatened to shoot if the Turkish police did not recognize its responsibility in the death of a protester last year. The two hostage-takers were killed during the assault of the police ( ).
The police also conducted on Wednesday a broad crackdown in circles close to the party / Revolutionary Front for the Liberation of the People (DHKP -C). It is this radical Marxist group that claimed the hostage taking. Dozens of suspected supporters of the underground movement were arrested throughout the country, especially in Antalya and Istanbul.
The Party / Revolutionary Front for the Liberation of the People (DHKP C) is considered "terrorist" by the Turkish authorities. It is known for its numerous attacks since the 1990s in Turkey
The prosecutor referred to the hostage taking was in charge of Berkin Elvan folder, the name of the teenager, wounded in the head by a shot from the police during anti-government protests in June 2013. The boy died of his injuries after several months in a coma. His death caused a wave of anger and indignation ( ).
Part of the opinion saw in this drama a symbol of repression by the Turkish authorities.
And to date, no police officer has been formally implicated in the investigation.
