A commando of the Islamist Shebab militia struck at the heart of Mogadishu. Islamists attacked the Ministries of Education and Petroleum. A car loaded with explosives rammed the gate of the enclosure and a shootout ensued.
At least 17 people were killed. It took more than half past one government forces to secure the area.
