More than a thousand migrants have landed again on Thursday, this time in the ports of Sicily. These are often Somalis, Eritreans who fled their country via Libya.
Others have been less fortunate. 400 migrants have died Sunday in the sinking of their boat. While sea search is continuing, the survivors, 150 in total, were divided into reception centers in southern Italy.
An Italian volunteer explains that three girls for example have lost their families. Many survivors also suffer from exhaustion or contagious diseases such as scabies.
In just 15 days, more than 10,000 people tried to cross the Mediterranean, despite the risks. Humanitarian organizations denounce the passivity of the European Union. Italy, she calls for more financial support from Brussels.
