In Russia, a dozen people were killed this weekend in violent prairie fires. These fires affect the Republic of Khakassia in southern Siberia. There are also hundreds of injured, some with severe burns.
Whole villages were destroyed. The victims were relocated to shelters. The state of emergency was declared in the entire region.
According to local authorities, the fires were started by people wanting to burn the grass.
Under the effect of wind and drought, flames spread quickly.
Now, rescuers say the fires are under control.
In summer 2010, is the Moscow region which was affected by severe forest fires, fueled by scorching temperatures while ( ). Sixty people were killed.
