Presidential Croatia: four candidates on the starting line


Croats designate their president on Sunday. The outgoing head of state Ivo Josipovic, candidate of the Social Democratic Party, the favorite in the polls. He is credited with 46.5% of the vote.


He would face in the second round on January 11 Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic, the candidate of the conservative camp. Kitarovic was Foreign Minister from 2003 to 2008. She would reap almost 35% of the vote.


Furthermore Josipovic and Kitarovic, two other candidates vying for the highest office Ivan Sincic, 24, a young activist of civil society, and Milan Kujundzic, 57, a nationalist politician.


The presidential election will be a test on the balance of power between the left in power and the conservative opposition for the parliamentary elections in late 2015.
