Francesco Schettino was sentenced to 16 years and one month in prison by the judges of the court of Grosseto in Tuscany. The former commander was found guilty of manslaughter Wednesday. Schettino was released on bail, the court has not ordered his immediate incarceration.
The shipwreck near the island of Giglio, the ship of the Italian company Costa Cruises had been 32 deaths in January 2012.
