Netherlands: discovery of a new bird flu outbreak

The Dutch authorities announced Sunday the discovery of a new outbreak of avian influenza in a poultry farm in the western Netherlands, but they could not say for now if it were to the same highly pathogenic strain discovered elsewhere in the country.

The animals began to be slaughtered. A security perimeter of 10 kilometers of the farm was established.

There are two weeks, several cases of H5N8 virus were reported in the country. This virus is a highly pathogenic for poultry, but experts say it represents a low risk to humans.

These cases of avian influenza could have been introduced from Asia by migratory birds.
