Iraq: Baghdad promised weapons to Yezidis


The Iraqi government promises to support the Yezidi community. A delegation was received on Sunday in Baghdad. The difficulties of this Kurdish-speaking minority in the north of the country have been addressed and the promised aid in the fight against Islamic state group.


"We are a delegation of the Yezidi community," said the commander, "we were very well received by the Defence Minister who promised us weapons, ammunition as well as logistical and material assistance."


Sinjar, the stronghold of the Yezidi, fell in early August at the hands of the IU jihadists. Family Tens of thousands have fled. Hundreds of people are still confined in the surrounding mountains. Their number is estimated between 1,000 and 10,000.


The Peshmerga, Iraqi Kurdish fighters massed troops in the area and are willing to go on the offensive. Objective: Retrieve the town of Sinjar and break the siege imposed on the organization Yezidis Islamic state.
