Dramatic prairie fires in Russia

At least 26 people died in huge fires of grasslands that have ravaged parts of southern Siberia.


According to Russian media quoted by AFP, the fires were so intense that they were visible from space, some flames than three meters high.


Some Russian farmers are stigmatized because they used to burn dry grass at the end of the winter to clean their fields.


The combined effect of strong winds and high temperatures, these lights were pests and murderers. Over thirty villages were affected by the fires, leaving 5,000 people homeless including 1,000 children.


According to the authorities, hundreds of livestock have died and 10,000 square kilometers of land burned.
