The UN Security Council adopted a resolution which sums the Shiite militiamen to withdraw from areas of the country they conquered, ie, they must cede power.
The text presented by the Gulf countries and Jordan was voted by 14 countries and one abstention that of Russia. The resolution also provides for sanctions against the leader of the Houthi rebels and their ally, former President Saleh and an arms embargo.
The Russian ambassador to the UN said that Moscow would have preferred "that the arms embargo is total", that is to say, concerning both sides, not just the Houthis. Russia is an ally of Iran, which supports the rebels.
Because the resolution does not impose on the Arab coalition fighting the Houthis, suspend airstrikes it has for nearly three weeks on the initiative of Saudi Arabia.
This intensification of the conflict has led to a continued deterioration of the humanitarian situation that worries more. The number of victims has exceeded 700 deaths and despite some aid deliveries, is absolute urgency.
