Iraq: new air strikes against the Islamic state group

In Iraq, the international coalition has launched new air strikes against the Islamic state group this time around Ramadi, 130 kilometers from Baghdad.

After the conquest, Wednesday, from several villages around Ramadi, jihadists are gaining ground and attempt to take the city. Hundreds of civilians have already fled the bombing and ground fighting between jihadists and Iraqi troops.

Ramadi is a strategic point of the country. It is the capital of the western province of Anbar, the gateway to Syria.

Another priority of the coalition led by the United States is to secure the town of Baiji, north of Baghdad. It is home to the largest refinery in Iraq and suffered for several months the repeated assaults of jihadists. Before the war, she not produce less than half of national oil consumption.
