Taking hostages during a Kenyan university

The attack on Thursday morning in Kenya of a university campus turned to hostage-taking. Having claimed responsibility that would have made more than a dozen victims, including two policemen, the Somali Islamist Al-Shabaab now retain more students inside the building.

The attack occurred in the town of Garissa.

"Why Garissa? First, because Garissa is close to the border with Somalia and that this city is the capital of the Somali people living in Kenya. In addition, three men were killed last week, Thursday, they were suspected of belonging to al-Shabaab and were slaughtered by Kenyan security forces. So I think the events of today are the measures taken by Al-Shabaab against Kenya. The country will pay dearly for the three people who were killed last Thursday, "said the journalist Bashir Ismail we reached by phone in Garissa.

For now, the Kenyan disaster management center said they got news of 280 of the 815 students on campus. However, no information on the number of students still held by the attackers.
