The attack on Thursday morning in Kenya of a university campus turns into a hostage. After claiming the attack that left at least 14 victims, including two policemen, the Somali Islamist al-Shabab now retain more students inside the building.
According to reports, the attackers stormed at dawn, in the grounds of the University of Garissa, a town near the Somali border. They would then fired indiscriminately, confirming the risk of attack discussed in recent days by the Kenyan police.
The Kenya Red Cross confirmed that 50 people, mostly Muslim, had already been released, but it is unclear exactly how many students still held.
For now, the campus is surrounded by police. Al-Shabab movement has vowed to avenge the Kenyan intervention in Somalia. Somali Islamists have already committed several very deadly attacks in Garissa and Nairobi in recent years.
