US-Cuban rapprochement Fidel Castro breaks silence

Fidel Castro speaks about the rapprochement between Cuba and the United States. This is what the media revealed the communist regime on Monday. The Cuban former leader said in a letter read by the President of the University Student Federation he does not trust the United States, but it does not reject provided a peaceful solution to the conflict.

"Any peaceful and negotiated solution to the problems between the United States and (...) any people in Latin America that do not involve the use of force must be treated in accordance with international rules. We will always defend the cooperation and friendship with all peoples of the world, including our political opponents. "

This letter appears five days after a historic meeting in Havana between Cuban and US officials, and after months of silence Fidel Castro. The thaw between Cuba and Washington was announced in December.

The father of the Cuban revolution, which handed power to his brother Raul from 2006, appears and speaks more and more rarely. Among the latest images of him that have been published are the pictures of his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in July.
