Israel: Holocaust Remembrance and fear of another Holocaust


Israel commemorated on Thursday the "Day of the Holocaust," in memory of the millions of Jews killed by the Nazis during the Second World War.

The most significant event took place at 10:00 (local time): two minutes during which the whole population is frozen in silence as sirens sounded.


Outgoing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu attended the official ceremony at Yad Vashem, the Holocaust memorial built in Jerusalem.


"Never again"?


On the eve of this day, the has published a report , indicating that almost one in two Israeli considers it possible a new Holocaust. They are 46% think against 41% last year.


For the current head of government, the main threat to Israel is Iran. Netanyahu also denounced once again the recent agreement between the major powers and Iran on the nuclear program developed by Iran ( ).
