Iraq counter-attack against the Islamic state group 130 km from Baghdad


In Iraq, government forces launched a counter-attack against the advancing Islamic state group. This time in the western province of Anbar. The fighting is concentrated around the city of Ramadi, only 130 kilometers west of Baghdad. The region is strategic: it is the largest in the country, it shares a border with Syria and above all, it is one of the bastions jihadists in Iraq.


In the Iraqi capital, violence also continues. For Tuesday alone, six car bombs there were at least 17 dead and over 55 injured.


It is in this context that the Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, went to Washington to ask for a new American support. President Barack Obama has pledged an additional $ 200 million dollars for the refugees and wounded Iraqis. However, it has not announced amplification military strikes.
