They had been arrested on the eve of Women's Day on 8 March. An interpellation
had provoked international condemnation demanding "their unconditional release." Beijing retorting that it was a case of sole responsibility of the Chinese authorities.
NGOs speak of "encouraging breakthrough" in the image of Amnesty International but they are also worried about the fate of these five women.
According to their lawyer, "they enjoy limited freedom because it is an interim bail, awaiting eventually indicted." In other words, they always have a sword of Damocles over their lives.
The five feminists have been detained for "fomenting unrest and sought to disturb public order. The first charge is incurring five years in prison in China.
These young women have denounced sexual harassment, domestic violence and in staging the lack of public toilets for women in China.
