Simone Gbagbo, the former first lady of Ivory Coast, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for his role in the post-election violence of 2011.
The "Iron Lady" was notably prosecuted for constitution of armed gangs and undermine the security of the state.
The Ivorian authorities had refused to deliver the wife of Laurent Gbagbo to the International Criminal Court, who wanted to continue for crimes against humanity.
The ICC must judge in The Hague to Laurent Gbagbo orchestrating the post-election violence.
Other Ivorian officials have been convicted, the son of the presidential couple, Michel Gbagbo, was sentenced for his part of five years in prison.
The civil war that followed his election defeat against Alassane Ouattara, has some 3,000 dead in four months.
