2014, a catastrophic year for civilians trapped in the conflict. Amnesty International presents its annual report, a black balance: apart from the millions of civilians killed, 2014 is 50 million displaced, the most since the Second World War. And Amnesty International points to the world leaders for allegedly answered "outrageous and ineffective way."
"The United Nations Security Council, created to protect civilians and ensure peace and security, has failed miserably, said Salil Shetty, Secretary General of the Organization for the Defence of Human Rights. And one reason is that its members have abused the right of veto. "Amnesty therefore requests that members of the Security Council voluntarily renounce use their veto in cases of genocide, war crimes or crimes against humanity.
Ukraine, Syria, Gaza, Nigeria, conflicts in 2014 were particularly numerous and persist. Amnesty examines 160 countries and identifies abuses in
35 of them by armed groups like Islamic state or Boko Haram.
And for 2015, Amnesty plans to more and more civilians living under the control of these brutal groups and a worsening humanitarian refugee crisis.
