Disappeared from the Pompidou Centre, the work of Picasso resurfaced in the US

"The hairdresser", a painting by Picasso painted in 1911 and owned by the French government, was found in the United States, 13 years after his flight.

Estimated at the time two and a half million dollars, this painting Cubist was discovered almost by accident by US Customs.

Since then, the small painting of the Spanish painter traveled. He left Belgium to arrive in the US on December 17 with "Art Craft / 30 euros / Merry Christmas" as if it were a handmade gift without value.

The recipient's identity has not been revealed by the US authorities.

Theft of "The Dresser" was found in connection with a loan application at the Pompidou Centre in 2001. The Centre was then able to see that she was not in the room where she was stored.

The painting had been publicly seen for the last time in Munich when she was exposed as part of a loan, the Kunsthalle der Hypo-Kulturstiftung.

A civil complaint was filed in Brooklyn, for the purpose of restitution to France, an administrative obligation given its value.
