Yemen: a suicide bomber killed 33 people among the members of a Shiite militia.


A suicide attack on supporters of the Shiite militia in Yemen killed at least 33 people Wednesday at a religious ceremony in the city of Ibb (center), witnesses and medical sources. Dozens of other people were injured when a suicide bomber dressed as a woman has operated his explosive belt in the lobby of a cultural center in Ibb, capital of the eponymous province, a Sunni majority but controlled for months by Shiite militia movement Ansaruallah. The suicide attack occurred while supporters of Ansaruallah had gathered for a ceremony marking the Mouled, the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad that Muslims should celebrate the weekend, according to witnesses. The bodies of 33 people killed in the attack were taken to two hospitals in the city, medical sources said, adding that the toll could rise. According to these sources, the governor of Ibb, Yahia al-Iryani, was among the wounded in the attack that was not claimed. The militia Ansaruallah, part of his stronghold in Saada in northern Yemen, launched at the beginning of a lightning offensive that allowed him to take control of the capital Sanaa on September 21, and then expand its influence gradually towards the west and central Yemen. The Sunni extremist network Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), well established in the south and southeast of Yemen, has vowed to fight a battle without thank you to Ansaruallah and tries to mobilize Sunni tribes to defeat the advanced Shiite militia to other regions of Yemen.
