A new research area: the authorities are exploring right now a new part of the Java Sea, to try to find the Air Asia gone missing for 2 days with 162 people on board.
For now no trace has been spotted on the surface.
"From the information we have, and since the crash probably occurred at sea, we believe that the plane now lies beneath the waters" said Bambang Sulistyo Ferry, the head of the National Search and Rescue Agency.
Contact with Airbus was lost two hours after taking off from the island of Java.
According to the company, shortly before his death, the pilot requested a change in the flight plan, taking more altitude because of the weather.
The families and relatives of the passengers, most Indonesians are reunited in a room, awaiting new information. The low-cost airline Air Asia, has a bad reputation. The plane, an Airbus A320-200, seemed in good condition, after 23,000 flight hours. France sent two investigators from the BEA (Bureau of Investigation and Analysis) to help with the search.
