In China, New Year festivities have been bereaved by a stampede in Shanghai. The official death toll reported at least 35 deaths. Dozens of people were injured.
The tragedy occurred on the Bund, the famous boulevard of the port city in the east of the country. It was just before midnight when the panic broke out, for reasons still unknown.
Emergency services arrived quickly on site to support the wounded.
The authorities immediately canceled the light show to be held for the transition to the new year.
